Can an Orthopaedic Surgeon perform spinal surgery for a c7 Radiculopathy - c6/7 Forminal Stenosis?

The Dr has a special interest in spinal surgery and has done this operation before (on other patients) but I thought only a Neurosurgeon should operate on the spine.
