Why is Kim Kardashian famous?

I would like to know why she is famous because she just seems to be all over the media for no reason whatsoever. What has she done that gives her any merit whatsoever? Having a large behind? There are people with incredible human talents that actually contribute to society like physicists, neurosurgeons, astronauts, artists, musicians, and authors who aren't even heard of because the majority of the people in this country are petty fools who would rather idolize people like Paris Hilton and Kardashian.
